good friday morning, everybody. i'm rob nelsen. >> and i'm sunny hostin. we start with several stories developing overnight. an emergency landing in portland, oregon. >> an alaska airlines flight was diverted after the pilot passed out in the cockpit. the plane was on its way to l.a. from seattle when the pilot lost consciousness. the plane landed safely. with 116 people on board. no word on what caused the pilot the pass out. and passengers on a jetblue flight had camera phones roling when a blonde-haired woman was removed from the plane. the new york to san diego flight was diverted to denver and the woman was removed. the plane continued to southern california. also overnight, the death toll is rising following an explosion in mexico city.

at least 25 people killed and more than 100 hurt after a blast ripped through the head quarters of a state-run oil company. the blast occurred in the basement of the building. investigators are not sure what caused it. we're also tracking new developments in alabama, where the hostage standoff is entering its fourth day. the gunman and the 5-year-old boy he kidnapped remain in an underground bunker stocked with supplie supplies. they're talking to the 65-year-old through a ventilation pipe. they do not believe the boy, who is autistic, has been harmed. dykes allegedly groobed the boy after shooting his school bus driver on tuesday. now the shuffle going on in the president's cabinet. today, the focus is on the foreign policy team. tahman bradley is watching the ever-changing lineup and joins us from washington with more.

documents. retired card mall mahoney has been released from his duties. the papers show how cardinal mahoney shielded priests from the allegations when he ran the diocese. the file was called brutal and painful reading. a school shooting on a playground has a young student facing charges in atlanta. a 14-year-old was shot and wounded in the neck on thursday. the young gunman fired several rounds before an armed security guard was able to take away the weapon. the two teens reportedly did know each other. a blinding snow blamed for a deadly pileup on highway in michigan. a mile-long stretch of crashes involved 30 trucks and cars. three people were killed, including two children, believed to be siblings. a dozen others were hurt.

they were driving along i-75 when conditions went from clear to total whiteout in matter of seconds. another chain reaction crash near indianapolis. about a dozen cars and trucks crashed into each other. one truck was carrying three elephants. they had to be offloaded from the trailer so the truck could get back on the road. that's not something we say a lot on the show. and severe storms left a trail of damage as they ripd through the south. winds in north carolina were so powerful that a backyard trampoline flew into the air and impealed a house. one pole went through a kitchen wall, another through the bedroom, just barely missing a woman's head. and blast of bitter cold air is moving across the country. >> for more, here's accuweather meteorologist jim dickey.

welcome back, everybody. we're getting more insight today into the unemployment situation before this morning's january jobs report, payroll company adp said private employers added 192,000 jobs this month. unemployment should be at 7.3% for the third straight month. older workers are not making way for younger once. almost two-thirds of americans between 45 and 60 plan to delay retirement. it's a steep increase from a few years ago. the reasons, financial losses, lay yaufr, and income stagnation.
